Make Mothers Matter on May 14th

Dear Friends,

This Mother’s Day, May 14th, MaterCare projects need your support to continue to serve mothers, their children and their families. The drought report from the Government of Kenya states that livestock health is at risk, milk production declined, disease outbreak has increased, and that the Average MUAC measurement is 24%. The Isiolo county drought status is ALERT and continues to worsen.

The global community continues to advocate for abortion and contraception, both of which are completely irrelevant to helping the women and children of Isiolo survive this environmental crisis. The government of Canada’s response, announced by Prime Minister Trudeau, is to provide $650 million to support “sexual and reproductive health programs”, the euphemisms for birth control and abortion.

At least 100 head of cattle were slaughtered in Isiolo in February as the government embarks on a livestock off-take programme to mitigate pastoralists from incurring massive losses as a result of persistent drought in the region.

The Samburu, Turkana pasturalists and the Borana whom MaterCare treats are among the most vulnerable people in the region of rural Isiolo, an area that already suffers from the highest maternal mortality and perinatal mortality rate in Kenya.

The severe drought and recent doctor’s strike is bringing the starving and needy to our doorsteps. Our hospital is understaffed to take on the growing number of patients.

Your donations are urgently needed to provide care to Isiolo patients.

MaterCare’s Rome Conference will celebrate our 20th Anniversary!

This conference is MCI’s 9th in Rome and occurs during MCI’s 20th anniversary year. Pope St. John Paul II, at a private audience during MaterCare International’s (MCI’s) first Rome conference in 2001, stated;
“It is my fervent hope that at the beginning of this new millennium, all Catholic medical and health care personnel, whether in research or practice, will commit themselves wholeheartedly to the service of human life. I trust that the local Churches will give due attention to the medical profession, promoting the ideal of unambiguous service to the great miracle of life, supporting obstetricians, gynaecologists and health workers who respect the right to life by helping to bring them together for mutual support and the exchange of ideas and experiences.”

This Mother’s Day, give on behalf of the women in your life to MaterCare International. We could not continue our projects or offer these important conferences without your support.

If you’re already a donor, THANK YOU.

Sincerely,
Dr. Robert Walley, Founder and Executive Director
MaterCare International (Canada)
