Text of the Message of Dr. Bernard Ars in English

Dear Sisters and Brothers, Catholic Doctors, Dear students who want to become doctors, Dear Pedro, Dear Jack,
With all my heart, thank you for being present in Panama and representing FIAMC!
By intermediary media, I am with you, from the bottom of my heart.
Live a strong moment!

Dear young people,
Engage where your heart is calling!
And when your commitment is made, FORM yourself constantly!
TRAIN yourself on a technical and scientific level, continuously! It’s a matter of professionalism! But also on the philosophical and theological level, to have the greatest possible human openness, listening to our patients!
We are in the service of the life of the suffering man, from conception to natural death.
Train yourself to a way of life where everything is transformed and impregnated by Jesus.
(To study is a work of the intellect in search of the Truth to know and communicate, and also a work of the will: we can not find the Truth if we do not love it and love is a act of the will.)

Let’s live a UNITY OF LIFE, a coherence in all the aspects of life: professional and responsible competence, strong inner life and daily maintained; thorough knowledge of the Christian vision of the human being.

Christ calls us to be his WITNESSES. Let’s be one, real and ‘of one block’!
Only our God is incarnate on earth, in Jesus, to show us the way to Hope which is in “that which is reserved for us in heaven.”
To live with Jesus is to end by entering the heart of God!
To find oneself with Jesus is realized in the Eucharist. God is truly present for ever and always, in the Eucharist. In front of the tabernacle, worship with simplicity and humility, to recognize God in our lives. To be in the real presence of Jesus, in a constant way, blossoms in our life as a Catholic doctor. We are then more in discernment, capable of conscientious objection, faced with certain professional constraints; able to choose the right service of the Man, facing the fascinating possibilities of techno-sciences; and able to accompany, with the compassion of the “Good Samaritan”, the vital and social precariousness, like the example of Saint Theresa of Calcutta, where the solemnity of the world day of the “sick” will very soon take place.

Medicine is the laboratory of society. When medicine is more Christian, it will be more human; when society becomes Christianized more intensely, it will become more human. In the world where individualism and consumerism reign supreme, let us witness the deep hope that the joy of the Gospel is a reality!

Let us be missionaries of respect for the dignity of human life, as well as for the development of the person, free and responsible, creative and open to Transcendence, the Heart of Jesus and also to our most fragile and poorest of the poor. Let’s live these exceptional moments in Panama, intensively. and in a very constructive way!

I pray to Jesus for and with you.

Dear Pedro, Dear Jack,

Bernard Ars
