CMA physician members are called to be servant-leaders—both in clinical practice and in governing the CMA. The Board members below all have committed to devote time, energy, and treasure to help the CMA to make the best use of its resources so that it can fulfill all the dimensions of its mission.

President
Marie-Alberte Boursiquot, MD

Columbia, MD

Dr. Marie-Alberte Boursiquot is a board certified Internist. She is a graduate of New York University and the Howard University College of Medicine. She completed her residency training at the
Johns Hopkins/Sinai Hospital program in Internal medicine. She was awarded fellowship status in the American College of Physicians in 2007. She currently works as a full time Internist in Ellicott City, Maryland.

She is an active member of her parish, The Basilica of the National Shrine of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary; America’s First Cathedral. She is a past president and an original member of her local Baltimore Guild-Catholic Medical Association (BGCMA). She has served on a number of medical and church related boards and committees. She is the proud aunt of three nephews and godmother of four.


Vice-President
John A. Schirger, MD

Rochester, MN

Dr. John A. Schirger, currently the Vice-President of the CMA, practices Cardiology at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN with an emphasis in advanced heart failure.  He has interests in markers for heart failure and novel therapeutic strategies for advanced heart failure.  Dr. Schirger also has a Masters degree in Philosophy from the Catholic University of America, writing his thesis on the concept of chance in evolutionary theory.  He continues to have an interest in the relationship of philosophy and theology to evolutionary theory and has published and spoken on this topic.  Additionally, he has an interest in ethical decision making at the end of life, especially as it relates to advanced mechanical cardiac support.  He is a graduate of Creighton University, Summa Cum Laude, with a degree in biology, and graduated from Creighton University’s School of Medicine.  Residency and specialty training was completed at the Mayo Clinic.

Treasurer
Michael S. Parker, MD

Gahanna, OH

Dr. Michael Parker is a native to the central Ohio area. He attended Kenyon College where he graduated cum laude with a Bachelors degree in Biology. In the fall of 1985, he enrolled at The Ohio State University College of Medicine, graduating with his doctorate degree in 1989. Dr. Parker then completed his residency training at The Ohio State University College of Medicine, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in 1993.

Dr. Parker is board certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (1995), a member of the Ohio State Medical Association and the Columbus Medical Association. He also has received additional training and certification as a Natural Family Planning medical consultant through The Pope Paul VI Institute for the Study of Human Reproduction in affiliation with Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska; and based on his Catholic and Pro-life beliefs, changed his practice to Natural Family Planning only, in 2004.

Dr. Parker and his wife Teresa live with their six children in New Albany. They are active in Pro-Life Causes and attend St. Matthew and St. Patrick Church. Dr. Parker is an active member of the Knights of Columbus.

Craig L. Treptow, MD

Great Falls, MT

Dr. Craig Treptow, a diplomat of the American Board of Family Medicine, sees patients from newborns to geriatrics in Great Falls, MT. Inspired by his physician father in rural Nebraska, Dr. Treptow pursued chemistry and mathematics premed study at University of Nebraska-Kearney; his Bachelor of Science degree was magna cum laude. He obtained his Doctor of Medicine in 1992 from Washington University Medical School in St. Louis and completed his residency in Lincoln, NE.

Dr. Treptow became interested in the CMA in 2006, and after attending the National CMA Conference in 2009, became convinced of the importance of Catholic Bioethics in the day-to-day practice of medicine. He helped start the Montana Guild in response to that need. He is well informed about the dynamics of physician assisted suicide and its dangers in his state and elsewhere.

Dr. Treptow and his psychologist wife, Robin, homeschool their young sons with an emphasis on Latin. He is a classical pianist and plays for his parish; he likes to hike and camp in Glacier National Park and read philosophy in his spare time.

Lester A. Ruppersberger, DO, FACOOG

Langhorne, PA

Dr. Ruppersberger graduated from the University of Pennsylvania and Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (both located in Philadelphia, PA). He did his post graduate training at Allentown Osteopathic Hospital (Allentown, PA) and Parkview Hospital (Philadelphia, PA). He has been with the Center for Women’s Health, since its formation in 1995. Dr. Ruppersberger is an attending physician at Lower Bucks Hospital in Bristol, PA and at Saint Mary Medical Center in Langhorne, PA. Dr. Ruppersberger is also a family life medical advisor and a certified instructor of natural family planning for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. He has been married to his wife, Betty, for 38 years, and has two sons and six grandchildren.

Peter T. Morrow, MD

St. Cloud, FL

Dr. Peter Morrow practices Internal Medicine at St. Cloud, Florida. He is a diplomat of the American Board of Internal Medicine with a Certificate of Added Qualification in Geriatric Medicine. He also holds certification in bioethics from the National Catholic Bioethics Center and is a consecrated Marian Catechist.
He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from the University of South Florida and earned a Doctor of Medicine at the University of Miami School of Medicine. Dr. Morrow completed his residency at Presbyterian/St. Luke’s Medical Center in Denver, Colorado. He returned to Florida following his residency to establish his practice and has been in private practice at St. Cloud for the past 28 years.
Dr. Morrow currently serves as the medical director of St. Thomas Aquinas Free Medical Clinic in St. Cloud, a parish-sponsored clinic providing primary and secondary care to those who are medically needy. He and his wife, Chris, have been married for 32 years and have been blessed with two daughters and five grandchildren.

David J. Hilger, MD

Omaha, NE

Dr. David J. Hilger is a diagnostic radiologist practicing in Omaha Nebraska, with an expertise in women’s imaging and breast cancer detection. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Nebraska, and attended the University of Nebraska for medical school and radiology residency. He is a board certified radiologist and in addition he is a Fellow in the American College of Radiology. Dr. Hilger has served on numerous medical and Catholic committees and boards. Dr. Hilger is the immediate past president of the Omaha Chapter of Legatus. He and his wife Mary are active in the Omaha Catholic community. They also both have a personal interest in disease prevention and health promotion, along with incorporating their Catholic faith into health promotion. They are members of the St. Vincent DePaul Parish in Omaha, and they have 3 adult children and 1 grandchild.

Thomas W. McGovern, MD

Fort Wayne, IN

Thomas W. McGovern, MD is a private practice dermatologist specializing in Mohs Surgery and Facial Reconstruction in Fort Wayne, Indiana. A native of Escanaba, MI, he graduated from Michigan Technological University and proceeded to Mayo Medical School. After graduation, he entered the US Army where he served eight years while completing his internship at Eisenhower Army Medical Center (Fort Gordon, GA) and Residency at Fitzsimons Army Medical Center (Aurora, CO). After his Honorable Discharge, he completed a Fellowship in Mohs Surgery and Cutaneous Oncology at Yale University School of Medicine. He has published over 80 peer-reviewed articles and over 10 medical book chapters.

He has served as founding Guild President of the Dr. Jerome Lejeune Guild of Northeast Indiana and has recently taken on the role of Regional Director for Region IV (IN, KY, MI, OH). He has served on the national Membership Committee and currently serves on the FIRE Committee, Mid-Year Meeting Committee, Outstanding Guild Award Committee, and the National CMA Board as an Advisor to the President. He is currently working as Liaison between Catholic Distance University and the Catholic Medical Association as they develop a formation program for CMA members. He is currently writing a course for the CDU on the history, theology, and medical aspects of Christ’s Passion. He has earned a Catechetical Diploma from Catholic Home Study Institute (previous name of CDU). He lives with his wife of 24 years, Sally, and his seven children in Fort Wayne. He became a grandfather in March.

Alfonso Olivia, MD

Spokane, WA

Alfonso (Al) Oliva, MD, FACS is a private practice plastic surgeon specializing in microvascular breast cancer reconstruction in Spokane, WA. He graduated summa cum laude from the St. Louis University in 1987. Dr. Oliva received his doctorate degree from the University of Illinois School of Medicine in 1982. He completed a five year residency in General Surgery from University of Illinois and Cook County Hospitals in Chicago,  in 1987. He then completed a second residency in Plastic Surgery from the University of California in San Francisco in 1989, and a fellowship in microsurgery in 1990. He practiced academic medicine until 1994, when he moved his family to Spokane, WA to establish the only microsurgery center between Minneapolis and Seattle. He has written and lectured on state of the art breast cancer reconstruction.

Dr. Oliva and his wife Charlotte have been married for 35 years and have raised four daughters and now have eight grandchildren. They are both board members of Healing the Culture, and are founders of Walk for Life Northwest.

Michelle K. Stanford, MD

Littleton, CO

Dr. Stanford is a board certified Pediatrician. She graduated from Colorado State University with honors in Biology. Michelle then attended the University of Colorado Medical School before completing her Pediatric Residency at The Children’s Hospital, Denver. While at The Children’s Hospital she served as Chief Resident. She worked for Children’s Hospital for 4 years after completing her residency until she opened a private practice. She lives in Colorado with husband and three children.

Episcopal Advisor
Most Rev. James D. Conley, DD

Diocese of Lincoln, NE

In his 28 years as a priest, Bishop James D. Conley has served the Catholic Church in a wide variety of ways—as pastor, college campus chaplain, director of Respect Life ministries, theology instructor, Vatican official and bishop. In all of these tasks, he has seen his life as a priest as a call to service and complete surrender to “God’s providential hand.”

For his episcopal motto, Bishop Conley, a convert to the Catholic faith, chose the same motto as the great 19th-century English convert, John Henry Cardinal Newman, “cor ad cor loquitur,” which means “heart speaks to heart.” Bishop Conley became the Episcopal Advisor to the CMA in January 2014.


Chaplain
Rev. Matthew J. Gutowski, STL

Springfield, NE

Rev. Matthew J. Gutowski, S.T.L., was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Omaha in 1988. He received his Licentiate in Sacred Theology from the John Paul II Institute for Studies on Marriage and Family in 1999. He has taught moral theology at Kenrick-Glennon Seminary in St. Louis (2000-2005), was director of the catechetical office for the Archdiocese of Omaha from 2005-2011, and is currently pastor of St. Joseph Parish in Springfield, Nebraska. He currently also serves as chaplain for the Omaha Guild of the CMA, as Director of Continuing Formation of Priests for the Archdiocese of Omaha, as Spiritual Director for the Holy Family Shrine near Gretna, Nebraska, as Spiritual Director for the Sancta Familia Medical Apostolate in Omaha, and is Episcopal Region IX priest-representative on the National Advisory Council for the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops.

Parliamentarian
Thomas M. Pitre, MD

Portland, OR

Dr. Pitre is a practicing Urologist in Portland, Oregon. He received a BA degree from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois and his MD, cum laude, from the State University of New York, Downstate Medical Center. He is a past president of the CMA and served on its board from 2000 -2014.  He is the CMA’s representative and consultant to the USCCB Subcommittee on Health Care issues. He also is currently serving on the boards of the, the National Catholic Bioethics Center, the Physicians for Compassionate Care and the Board of the Garaventa Center of the University of Portland.

Dr Pitre is a volunteer faculty member of the Oregon Health Sciences University. He is a past president of Legacy Good Samaritan Hospital and past president of the Oregon Urological Society. He is a recipient of an award from the Coalition of Volunteer Clinics for work with the medically indigent in Portland.  He has been a Benedictine Oblate of Mount Angel Abbey, St. Benedict, Oregon since 1996 and is a Knight Grand Cross of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem.

Maricela P. Moffitt, M.D.

Phoenix, AZ

Dr. Moffitt graduated from the University of Texas Medical School at Houston in 1986. She is Board certified in Internal Medicine and has practice Medicine for 25 years in Arizona. She obtained a Masters degree in Public Health in 1994 at the University of Arizona. Her research interest includes Tuberculosis and medical education.

She is currently holds the academic rank of Professor of Medicine and serves as the Director of the Doctoring Curriculum at the University of Arizona College of Medicine in Phoenix where she teaches communication and physical exam skills to medical students. She is a part-time Hospitalist at the VA Hospital in Phoenix.

She has served on the 1st Way (a crisis pregnancy center) Board of Directors; The HOPE Mobile Ultrasound Unit Board; She currently serves on the Phoenix Diocesan Medical Ethics Board; The Catholic Physicians Guild of Phoenix Board and the Catholic Medical Association Board (as President 2012) She teaches with her husband in the RCIA program at Corpus Christi parish. She is married to Dr. Robert A. Moffitt who is in deacon formation; they have three children.
