Statement on Plan B Decision

April 05, 2013

Bala Cynwyd, PA—On Friday, April 5, 2013, U.S. District Judge Edward Korman ordered the FDA to make Plan B available to women and girls of all ages, over the counter and without restrictions. In response to this clear case of judicial overreach, the Catholic Medical Association released the following statement:

Judge Korman’s outrageous decision constitutes an assault on the health of young girls and on the rights of parents. Studies demonstrate that providing easy access to Plan B in advance does not lower teen pregnancy rates. This decision makes it more likely that young girls will suffer from improper uses of Plan B and exploitation, and render parents and physicians less able to protect young girls from such dangers. At a minimum, the Obama administration should appeal Judge Korman’s decision and get it reversed.

Founded in 1932, the Catholic Medical Association is the largest association of Catholic physicians and healthcare professionals in North America. For more information, go to www.cathmed.org.
