Calendar of Saints & Blesseds of Medical Doctors

St. Gianna Beretta Molla Molla

On this page – under construction – we are compiling a Calendar of Saints & Blesseds of Medical Doctors throughout history.

We would like to find the Collects as these are use as the Concluding Prayers of Lauds & Vespers (for those who pray the Daily Office).

For that prpose we need your assistance. If anyone anywhere know these Collects, or how to get them, it would greatly help this endeavor.

Please contact us at info@fiamc.org.

To begin with

  • St. Luke the Evangelist: Most biblical scholars believe Luke was a Greek physician who eventually wrote down the Gospel of Luke and the Acts of the Apostles. Through the centuries Luke has been invoked as the patron saint of physicians and surgeons.
  • Sts. Cosmas and Damian These brothers were highly skilled doctors in the 4th century, who did all they could to heal people. They were then killed for their Christian faith during the persecution of Diocletian.
  • St. Rene Groupil: After studying medicine during the 17th century, Groupil sailed to “New France” to help the Jesuit missionaries. In Quebec he volunteered to help the Jesuits in their missionary journeys as a medic.
  • St. Gianna Beretta Molla: Molla studied to become a physician, surgeon and pediatrician. She worked especially with the poor, elderly, children and mothers. Molla put God’s will and law above every medical decision.
  • Ven. Marcello Labor: During World War I, Labor served as a medical officer in the Italian army. After the war Labor established a medical practice in Pola, Italy, where he worked especially with the poor of the city.
