On this day, May 15, 2025, we mark the second anniversary of the passing of Mons. Valentin Pozaić, auxiliary bishop of Zagreb. He was born on September 15, 1945 in Selnica, parish of Marija Bistrica, in a large family, to parents Janko and Agata née Salar. After finishing elementary school, which he attended in Selnica and Bedekovčina, he enrolled in the seminary gymnasium in Zagreb’s Šalata. After finishing the second grade, he joined the Society of Jesus. He attended philosophical and theological studies at the Institute of Philosophy and Theology of the Society of Jesus in Zagreb.
Pope John Paul II appointed him Auxiliary Bishop of the Archbishop of Zagreb on February 2, 2005, and he was ordained bishop in the Zagreb Cathedral on the feast of St. John Paul II. Joseph, March 19, 2005.
He zealously performed his episcopal office under the motto “Choose Life” for twelve years, keeping in mind the glory of God, the courageous example of Blessed Alojzije Stepinac, as well as his statement that in love for the Croatian people one cannot be overshadowed by anyone!
Bishop Valentin closely monitored and supported the efforts of the faithful to build a culture of life. In this video, we bring you a few short memories of the faithful of Zagreb about our dear bishop.
