Mission Doctors Association is now accepting nominations for the 2016 Catholic Doctor of the Year.   The award recipient will be chosen from nominations received from around the country and honored following the annual Archdiocese of Los Angeles White Mass on October 16, 2016.  This is an opportunity for patients, colleagues, friends and family members to recognize an outstanding Catholic doctor.

To submit the name of a qualified doctor(s) for consideration fill out an application form online or download and complete an application and send it to Mission Doctors.  All forms are due by July 15th, by mail or fax.

Catholic doctors face many challenges today as they work to meet the needs of their patients in the context of their own faith and calling.  Many go well beyond the roll and responsibilities of their profession, offering care that truly reflects the love of God.  For some this is obvious in their own practice, for others this takes the form of volunteering in their community or mission work that may be domestic or international. Their exemplary actions bear witness to the highest values of the Catholic doctor.

The 2015 recipients of the Catholic Doctor of the Year award, Father John “Jack” McCarthy, OPraem, MD and Father Maurice Schroeder, OMI, MD have worked for more than 30 years in the Peruvian Amazon caring for the body and soul of more than 20,000 individuals in 100 villages up and down the Napo River from Santa Clotilde Mission.

The award is given in recognition of the efforts of a doctor who has responded to Christ’s call to “Heal the Sick”, as a member of our Catholic faith community and in doing so has made a World of Difference.

Our Partners

To respond to the demand for Catholic medical mission trip opportunities, CMA partners with two large Catholic medical mission organizations – the Catholic Medical Missions Board (CMMB) and Mission Doctors Association. Both groups are well established, reputable and authentically Catholic.

Catholic Medical Mission Board (CMMB)

CMMB was founded in 1928, and initiates and operates healthcare programs that help build the capacity of local communities to provide long-term sustainable healthcare. CMMB’s Medical Volunteer Program—MVPs for Change—places licensed healthcare professionals at faith-based healthcare facilities in resource-poor countries, helping doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals to serve those in need for periods ranging from a few weeks to a few years.
