| What a wonderful 92nd Annual Educational Conference in Phoenix! Thank you, Dr. Tim Millea, his committee and CMA staff for putting together such a wonderful group of speakers and events.In keeping with the theme of the conference, our theme for this month is Fortitude, or the stable disposition to do the right thing in the face of great fear. View a short explanation of fortitude here. The feast of the Holy Guardian Angels was on October 2. Although it has passed, we offer this talk from a Norbertine priest to attendees at the 2016 Napa Institute, in which he explains the role of our guardian angels. October is the Month of the Rosary and the feast of Our Lady of the Rosary (Oct. 7) was established in 1571 by Pope Pius V after the victory of the Christian navy at the Battle ofLepanto, won through her intercession. Our Lady made fifteen promises to those who faithfully recite the Rosary. The final apparition at Fatima (Oct. 13, 1917), witnessed by 70,000 people, ended with the Miracle of the Sun. Our Lady’s final words to the children were “Do not offend the Lord our God anymore, because He is already so much offended. ”The CMA Prayer Group will meet Sat. Oct. 14 at 2:00 PM EDT. The next Aquinas 101 short talk from the Thomistic Institute is Being and Metaphysics by Fr. Thomas Joseph White, O.P. Saint Margaret Mary Alocque (Oct. 16) was born in France in 1647. She became a Visitation nun after years of private visits from Jesus, which she thought everyone experienced! She was given the revelation of devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, the practice of nine First Fridays and weekly Holy Hours. She is the patroness of polio victims. On October 19, we remember the French Jesuit martyrs, Ss. John de Brébeuf and Isaac Jogues and companions who for 20 years in the 1600’s evangelized the Huron Indians in Canada. They were tortured to death by the Iroquois. They demonstrated the best way to evangelize a native people is to learn their language, their customs and live among them. Dr. Paul Hruz’s talk from CMA’s Annual Educational Conference entitled “A Practical Guide for Clinician Adherence to Both Faith and Evidence-Based Medicine in a Relativistic Culture” is a must listen as he shares the joy of suffering and remaining true to his mission as a Catholic doctor.
