May 1, 2026

May is such a beautiful month and this year it contains several important solemnities as we come to the end of the Easter season. Our theme for this month is The Mystery of the Trinity as we celebrate The Most Holy Trinity (May 31), preceded by Pentecost Sunday (May 24) and The Ascension of the Lord (May 17). At each Mass, a miracle occurs at the moment of consecration. “It is not man that causes the things offered to become the Body and Blood of Christ, but he who was crucified for us, Christ himself. The priest, in the role of Christ, pronounces these words, but their power and grace are God’s. This is my body, he says. This word transforms the things offered.” (CCC 1375) Did you know that with 8 billion people in the world, for each person to spend one minute with Our Lord, you would have to wait 15,200 years! We suggest making visits to the Blessed Sacrament on your way home from work or becoming a regular adorer.
At Pentecost, the disciples received the gifts of the Holy Spirit and courageously went out to proclaim Jesus Christ. “Confirmation completes the grace of Baptism by a special outpouring of the gifts of the Holy Spirit, which seal or “confirm” the baptized in union with Christ and equip them for active participation in the worship and apostolic life of the Church.” (CCC 1285) We suggest choosing a corporal work of mercy to practice this month.
The monthly CMA ZOOM Prayer Group will meet Sat. May 9 at 2:00 PM. Come bring your intentions! Bishop James Conley has offered to say Masses for members’ intentions. To receive Mass cards, email info@cathmed.org.
Registration is now open for our 95th Annual Educational Conference. Click here to register. The theme is Mysteries and Miracles: Restoring the Practice of Medicine to Heal the Whole Person and it will be held September 10-12, 2026 in Phoenix, Arizona. See you there!
Mother’s Day (May 10) is a time to honor all the mothers in the CMA and in our lives. Read 1Tim 2: 13-15. Our Lady of Fatima (May 13) asked us the pray the Rosary daily, make the First Saturday devotions, convert and do penance. The sexual sins and slaughter of the innocents today far exceed those in 1917, all of which degrade women and motherhood. Our Blessed Mother is counting on us to cooperate with her to bring about the Triumph of her Immaculate Heart. Our Lady is honored May 25 as Mother of the Church. The artwork this month is The Coronation of the Virgin by 17th century Spanish artist, Diego Velazquez.
St. Dymphna (May 15) was martyred by her unhinged pagan father in 620 AD for refusing to marry him. St. Isidore (1070-1130) shares her feast day and is the patron of farmers. Angels often helped him complete his work in the fields.
Suggested reading for this month include In the School of the Holy Spirit by Jacques Philippe, Contemplating the Trinity by Raniero Cantalamessa, OFM CAP, The Gifts of the Holy Spirit by Peter John Cameron, OP, Living the Mysteries by Scott Hahn, On the Holy Spirit by St. Basil the Great (online) and Abortion Pill Reversal: A Second Chance at Choice by CMA member, George Delgado, MD.
