Archbishop Filomeno do Nascimento Vieira Dias of Angola’s Luanda Archdiocese has called on Catholic Doctors in the country to set aside some time within their schedules to engage in volunteer work in the parishes.

In his Wednesday, October 18 homily during Holy Mass to mark the Catholic Doctors Day in Angola, Archbishop Dias invited the Catholic medics to establish a friendly relationship with their patients.

“On a daily basis, find time, find energy, find desire and charm for volunteering in your parishes, offering your competence in this field so that others may have life and life in abundance, thus forging the closeness of God in time and history,” the Angola Catholic Archbishop said during the Eucharistic celebration at St. Paul’s Parish of Luanda Archdiocese.

The Local Ordinary of Luanda Archdiocese added, “We understand that each job has its complexities, its specific problems and circumstances.”

“It would be good for our society, it would be good for all patients and their families if an alliance were created or established, a relationship of trust in such a way that patients and their families knew that the health professionals were on their side,” he said.

Archbishop Dias further said, “Health professionals are our allies, health professionals sound like our guardian angels that society is proud of because they are the men and women who look after its health.”

“The opposite is not healthy. The opposite does not build. The risk is losing humanity, and this respect must be the mission of the health professional,” the Archbishop of Luanda said.

He said, “Humanity must always be present, as in a temple or a church, places of sacred things. We can’t get lost in emotions and uncontrolled reactions.”
